Without the Inner Child There Will Be No Adult

  • 06.09.2026

If you ignore your inner child, your adulthood is not the real thing.

It is more like a game of dress-up: «let’s pretend to be grown-ups».

Don’t believe it? Read on)

Real adulthood does not begin with responsibility, or with a career, or with “I can sort everything out myself”.

It begins with contact with yourself. With all your parts. Including the one that is still crying in the dark, swallowing its tears so as not to be a nuisance.

🎭 Why do we «play» at being adults?

Because from childhood we were told:

▫️ “Stop bawling — you’re not a baby any more!”

▫️ “Pull yourself together!”

▫️ “Nobody is going to feel sorry for you”…

And we understood that our child parts have to be hidden away.

To be ashamed of vulnerability. To imitate confidence.

To push through with «I can do it myself», even when it is frightening and cold.

That is fake adulthood. It is not support. It is armour.

🌀 The Gestalt approach says:

You can only grow up when you meet the child inside you.

Without abandoning it. Without mocking it. Without turning it into a self-development project.

Because the adult part is the one that can take care of the vulnerable one.

Not the one that forbids it.

💡 What happens when we do not integrate the child?

🔸 We set ourselves impossibly high standards

🔸 We confuse responsibility with self-punishment

🔸 We lose contact with our desires

🔸 We feel no satisfaction even from our achievements

And most of all — we are not at home with ourselves.

🌿 Adulthood = contact

Not perfection. Not nerves of steel. Not success.

But the ability to stay beside yourself — in weakness, in joy, in fear, in need.

Because when you are beside your inner child —

you no longer have to pretend to be an adult.

You simply are. And that is enough.

And if these words about the inner child are about you…

If you recognised yourself in this story…

And you want not just to read about it, but to live it,

not just to understand, but to feel and to heal —

we invite you into the therapy group

«Healing the Inner Child»

with facilitator Oksana Shulha.

In this group we will:

🌱 get to know our inner child

💛 learn to accept and integrate it

🌟 find strength in vulnerability

🌈 separate from inner and outer «adults»

🔍 look for our own meanings and sources of support

🔬 We will work in a range of approaches:

✔️ Gestalt therapy

✔️ wholeness-oriented therapy

✔️ psychosomatics

✔️ bodynamics

✔️ art therapy

✔️ and many other tools that support the depth and gentleness of the process
